Hi, I’m Jethro Obadja Rahajaan

I started breakdancing in 1998 and one thing led to another... I developed a strong interest for many other dance styles and movement practices. I learned popping, locking, hiphop, house dance, contemporary dance, classical ballet, capoeira, tricking, tai chi and qi gong.

Right now I find myself in between styles and sometimes unable to identify what it is that I am doing. Things are blending and fusing as I move to music on an Ecstatic Dance floor.

One thing is for sure, the journey of movement will never end.

A pathway to freedom

I remember clearly how my aunt took me by the hand and said "here, go dance with your cousin". I looked at my cousin and I saw her move from side to side, clapping her hands now and then and it just felt super awkward. I tried to copy her. I had no idea what I was doing and I knew I wasn't clapping on the rhythm. I was 8 years old and had never danced before.

I looked around and saw the rest of my family dancing in the middle of the floor, they were having a lot of fun. Then out of the blue I thought to myself "one day I will make those awesome floor moves in the middle of a crowd". Even though I can't remember ever having seen people do that stuff, I saw myself doing it, I had a clear image of me getting down and the crowd going wild.

5 years later I took my first breakdance class in the city of Groningen. From that very day on, October 20th 1998, I was in love. I spent hours and hours a day trying to master more and more moves.

Today my love from b-boying (breakdancing) is present as ever, but I have learned so many other things in the meantime, that now I have come to the conclusion that learning how to break was a pathway that led to something deeper...

Now my ultimate goal is to unravel the mysteries that still lie inside the architecture of the human body and the cultivation of all-roundedness, making the body a vessel through which the soul can express itself... and this leads to one thing ultimately: true freedom!
